I hate when my clients think they are getting organized because they’ve bought the latest and greatest tool, but the products they have are not functional. And they’ve spent good money on them! I know it can be so frustrating when they don’t help the problem, they actually make it worse. Sometimes the little gadgets might look super cool and fun but there hard to use and not functional when it comes right down to it.
The days of black, boxy, boring office organizing tools are long gone! I love that there are so many versatile office organizing tools out there and now you can get them in many colors, shapes, and sizes. I’m going to share my favorites and how I use them, not only in my office but throughout the house. There are so many products that I love and mDesign (through Amazon) is my favorite online store for organizing tools. Here are just a few of my favorite practical and cute tools I love.
Stackable organizer totes
I love these stackable totes. They are available in lots of different sizes, styles, and colors. In fact, these are also the exact ones I use to keep my In-Home Organizing Work Bag organized. They keep everything separated, are easy to grab and go, and wash out with a quick rinse. Not only are they great for all those desk office supplies, but these organizing totes are also great for:
- A cleaning tote with all your sponges, cleaning solutions, and paper towels that you can move from room to room
- An art bin to keep kid paint supplies in (and out of reach).
- A makeup tote that can easily be stored under the sink and pulled out when you need it.
- A craft tote to hold all your essential tools.
- A place to keep the kids toys in the bathroom.
Drawer tool organizers
Drawers are awesome because you can easily open them, take things out and put things away. I look for products that can be cleaned inside and out. No unstacking and restacking of bins to get to what you need. And no lids to open and close, which makes them easy to use. Another advantage is when you use drawers, you store things in a way that uses vertical space. This can help keep things tidy and take up less room. (And my cat doesn’t push all the binder clips off the desk!)
Door hanging pocket & shoe organizers:
This behind-the-door organizer has large pockets to keep your notebooks, files, and paper tidy and neat. I love that you can just reach in and grab what you need without having to thumb through a stack of stuff. With it hidden behind the door, it takes up little space and keeps your desk clean. These are also great for taming all the incoming paper including mail, receipts, bills, and important papers.
Lazy susans:
As you can see, turntable lazy susans are for so much more than holding the condiments in the center of your dinner table. Lazy susans keep all your tools and supplies front and center. They are fantastic for organizing any cabinet. They come in all sorts of sizes from kitchen cabinet depth to large deep pantry sizes. I keep one under my kitchen sink for soap and cleaning supplies It’s a great way to be able to see everything you have with a quick spin.
Bonus tip:
You can use any organizing tool in more than one way. Think about how you can use these items in different areas of your house and for different things. If you have a space that’s cluttered and messy, one of these organizing tools might just be the solution to keep things in order. And finally, slap on a label so it’ll be easy for everyone in your office to find things (and put them away).
